Laxis Review: The AI Note Taker With No Bot in Your Meeting

You get off a forty-minute call, and ten minutes later someone asks what you landed on for the budget and who is sending the vendor quote. Most AI note takers fix this by sending a bot into your meeting, a little stranger everyone has to let in. Laxis doesn't. It listens on your laptop, nothing joins the call, and in our scripted meeting test it caught 5 of 5 facts and ignored the trap.

Laxis sponsored this video. Everything below is a real run on our Mac, from October 23, 2026. Here's the setup, the three rounds, the price and our verdict.

The problem with meeting bots

A bot note taker shows up as an extra person in the call. Everyone sees it, someone has to admit it, and it can feel odd in a client or job call. A note taker that records on your own computer skips all of that. The question is whether the notes are still good.

The test

We used the exact test from our note taker comparison earlier this month. One scripted meeting, five facts it has to catch, and one trap it has to ignore. Then two bonus rounds: writing the follow-up email just by talking, and asking questions across two meetings at once.

Setup: take the DMG for the voice keyboard

Setup is quick. Grab the Mac download from the Laxis site, and take the DMG version, not the App Store one, because only that version comes with the voice keyboard. (A DMG is just the regular Mac installer file you download from a website.) There are also apps for Windows, iPhone and Android.

Sign in, allow the microphone, and you're done. When you hit record, Laxis captures the audio right on your computer, so it works the same in Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, and nobody gets an invite from a bot.

Round 1: the meeting test

The meeting has three people. Maya runs it, Dev owns the budget, and Priya handles the beta list. It's about two minutes long, and we played it straight through the Mac speakers.

The transcript writes itself as they talk, and it splits the conversation by who is speaking. Halfway through, the three of them drift into a story about the office coffee machine. That's the trap. A good note taker should know it isn't a decision.

The score: 5 out of 5

We hit stop, and the notes started appearing in about three seconds. About eight seconds later they were done, and Laxis had even given the meeting a title. Here's the score card.

What it had to catchWhat Laxis wroteResult
Launch dateMoved from Thursday the 13th to Friday, November 14, with the reason Thursday was droppedCaught
Budget$48,500, approved, with the Android build, under the $50,000 capCaught
Dev's jobSend the revised vendor quote by WednesdayCaught
Priya's jobLaunch email to the beta list by MondayCaught
Backup planIf the app store says no, launch on the web firstCaught
Trap: coffee machine storyNot a single wordIgnored

Five out of five, with the right names on both action items. Both of those tasks also landed in the Tasks tab, ready to tick off.

Round 2: the follow-up email by voice

Notes only matter if something happens next, and that's usually a follow-up email nobody wants to write. Laxis has a voice keyboard that works in any app. Press a key, talk, press it again, and the words land wherever your cursor is.

Plain dictation

We opened Gmail and talked the way people really talk, with ums and repeats: "Hi both, um, thanks... I think, I think..." Laxis stripped the filler and the repeat and left one clean sentence: "Hi both, thanks for the call today. I think we're in good shape for the launch on Friday the 14th."

Agent Mode

Agent Mode is the bigger deal. You press two keys and just say what you need, and it writes the whole thing. We said what the email should cover, and the full email appeared right there in Gmail: a greeting, one clean paragraph with every date and number, and a sign-off. We didn't type a single character.

To be clear about what happened: the dates and numbers in that email came from what we said out loud. Agent Mode turned a spoken request into a finished email. It didn't go and read the meeting notes on its own.

Round 3: AI Chat across two meetings

One meeting is easy. The real mess is week three, when nobody remembers which call decided what. So we recorded a second meeting, a check-in one week later, where a few things changed.

We gave the three speakers their names once, right in the transcript. Then we picked both meetings in AI Chat and asked: what got done or changed since the planning meeting, and what's still open?

  • Done or changed: the beta email was drafted, approved and scheduled for 9 a.m. on launch day. The final quote came in at $48,200, which is $300 under budget. The web backup is ready.
  • Still open: sign the quote, confirm the webinar time by Friday, and the app review.

The part we liked most: it said the old to-dos from the first meeting were superseded by the new updates. It didn't just repeat old tasks. It kept track of what actually moved.

One tip from this round: name your speakers. Out of the box, Laxis labels people Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. Naming them once in the transcript is what let the answer say who owns each open item.

Our verdict

Five out of five on the meeting test, with no bot in the call. A follow-up email we didn't have to type. And answers that track a project across meetings. If you hate letting a bot into every call, and you write a lot of follow-ups, this is the one we'd try first.

The free plan is enough to run this same test on your own meetings. Start there, and upgrade only if you want Agent Mode and AI Chat.

Quick answers

Does Laxis send a bot into my meeting?

No. Laxis captures the audio right on your computer, so nothing joins the call and nobody gets an invite from a bot. Because it listens on your laptop, it works the same in Zoom, Google Meet or Teams.

How accurate are Laxis meeting notes?

In our scripted test meeting, Laxis caught 5 of 5 facts: the new launch date, the approved budget, two action items with the right names, and the backup plan. It also ignored the trap, a side story about the office coffee machine. The notes started appearing about three seconds after we hit stop.

Is Laxis free?

Yes, there is a free plan. It gives you 300 minutes a month, recordings up to 45 minutes, 30 days of history and the voice keyboard. Premium is $9.99 a month on the yearly plan and includes 2,000 minutes per month, unlimited history, AI Chat and Agent Mode.

Is there a Laxis discount code?

Yes. Viewer code HAL20 gives 20% off Laxis Premium for your first 12 months. Redeem it in the app under Settings, then Plan, then Redeem Promotion Code, by November 30, 2026.

Why does the Laxis voice keyboard not show up on my Mac?

Download the DMG version from the Laxis site, not the App Store version. Only the DMG comes with the voice keyboard. Laxis also has apps for Windows, iPhone and Android.

Can Laxis answer questions across more than one meeting?

Yes, with AI Chat on Premium. We picked two meetings a week apart and asked what got done or changed and what was still open. After we named the three speakers once in the transcript, it got the done, changed and open items right, and noted that the old to-dos had been superseded.
