What a Recruiter’s Eyes Actually Scan — and the Fix at Every Stop
The one-page companion to the video — a recruiter spends about 7 seconds on your LinkedIn profile before deciding to read on or move on, and their eyes travel in a predictable order. This checklist walks that exact gaze path, top to bottom, with a concrete fix at each stop. THE 8 STOPS: (1) Photo & Banner — your face should fill roughly 60% of the frame, eyes to camera, soft even light; then use the banner as a free billboard that states who you help in five words. (2) Headline, the biggest lever — use the formula [what you do] + [for whom] + [result / keywords], e.g. "Frontend Engineer building fast, accessible fintech UIs in React & TypeScript | Design systems that cut ship-time 40%," packed with the exact words a recruiter searches. (3) The Search Truth — recruiters SEARCH, they don't browse, so your target role and stack keywords must live in your Headline, About and Skills or you're invisible. (4) About, the 3-line rule — LinkedIn cuts off after 3 lines, so line 1 = hook, line 2 = proof + who you help, line 3 = value; write it first person and end with a CTA. (5) Featured — the only visuals you control, so pin one piece of proof. (6) Experience — every bullet is verb + number + outcome ("Rebuilt the dashboard — cut load time 4s to 1s, lifted DAU 27%"), never "responsible for." (7) Skills & Recommendations — your top 3 skills are pinned and searchable, and 2-3 real recommendations beat 30 endorsements. (8) Activity & Open To Work — post one useful thing a week and turn on Open to Work set to your exact target role. Ends with a 7-second self-test you can run in one minute.
