Get The Model-Recall Survival Kit

On June 12, 2026 at 5:21 PM ET, the US government issued an export-control directive citing national security and ordered Anthropic to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals — including its own foreign-national employees. The only way to comply was to disable both models for every customer worldwide, three days after Fable 5 launched. The claimed reason: a jailbreak. Anthropic reviewed the demo and called it narrow and non-universal — asking the model to read a codebase and find software flaws — a capability it says is widely available from other models (including OpenAI's GPT-5.5) and used routinely by cyber defenders. This is the first time a government has recalled a deployed commercial AI model, and it changes the risk math for anyone building on one. The kit is the survival plan: what actually happened, the precedent decoded, a 7-point fallback checklist to make your stack provider-portable, and the eval-parity test + switch-day runbook so a directive at 5 PM can't quietly break your product overnight.
